HUMAN RIGHT#1: KNOW YOUR RIGHT

By Egbe Abraham Imoke

This post is the First in the series Human Right  and the third  volume of PEOPLES DREAM INITIATIVE weekly voluminous article Titled: Human Right  : Know Your right

The united nation On December 10, 1948, at the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, following this historic act the Assembly called upon all member countries to publicize the text of the Declaration and “to cause it to be disseminated, displayed, read and expounded principally in schools and other educational institutions, without distinction based on the political status of countries or territories.” Every person is entitled to certain fundamental rights simply the fact of being human; these are called “human right.” In our society today standing for your right is difficult for the common man, because the right of the common man has been trampled upon by the elite who happen to be in the corridor of power, this are the policy makers, they make and break the law, leaving the common man on the street to deal with the law, when an individual has little or no knowledge about his/her constitutional right slavery may arise, and that is the reason why the youth are vulnerable when it comes to exercising their fundamental human rights. The world will be a better place when we learn to respect the rights and values of one another, helping each other grow in the right sense and not leaving the people downtrodden, it is paramount to note that the right of an individual gives him access to freedom to do what so ever he/she pleases. Have you ever wondered why we have freedom fighters? freedom fighters in the likes of ; Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, Mohandas Karamchand Ghandi, Desmond Tutu, etc., they all stood for one cause ensuring that their fight for freedom was so everyone will have the right to live, be free and do what they choose to do. The infringement on the right of an individual only makes the individual not able to enjoy his/her right. The protection and promotion of human right should not be limited to the United Nations or the Government; everyone needs to get involved in the process of promoting human right, so we can create an environment in which the value of human being can be respected. People need to be more enlightened about their rights, the importance, the how and when to stand up for their rights, in most cases people get to involve in violent activities in the form of fighting for their right.
