READERS ARE LEADERS #1: THE ESSENTIALS

By Ibobo Melvin

This post is the first in the series Readers are leaders and the second volume of

PEOPLES DREAM INITIATIVE weekly voluminous article Titled: Readers are Leaders: The Essentials

Reading is the most vital means to acquiring knowledge, we are familiar with the premise which states that “knowledge is power” so the level of knowledge we possess determines our value in the society and our value determines our worth. Societies and the world at large are in need for problem solvers, and who are problem solvers? They are those who have been able to dedicate their time & resources in acquiring knowledge on how things work and who acquired the ability to attain success at any level. These people are in positions of influence in our society; they see problems as opportunities where they can proffer sustainable solution in improving the life of others and the society at large. There is a quote by Jim Rohn which states that “formal education can earn you a living while self-education can earn you a fortune” The evidence in our world today shows the credibility of that statement. We are in a situation in our nation where there is an urgent need for true leadership and this fact cannot be overemphasized enough. Leaders are meant to be role models, they are solution providers, they are speakers, they are pacesetters and most importantly they are readers that is why as citizens the most important duty and obligation we have is to participate in the process that determines our leaders because it our leaders who speak on behalf of the people they determine if we progress or regress as a nation. A good leader will establish a peaceful, united and stable nation while a bad leader will produce division, chaos and a poverty stricken society and without the right knowledge of who they are and what they are about we tend not to make the right judgement when making our decisions in electing our leaders. Worst of all our ignorance leads us to selling our vote and in most cases vote in leaders because of individual gain not realizing our collective success is what brings about a sustainable development and ensure our right as citizens to have access to basic amenities and to have equal opportunities and justice under the law, all this far outweighs the bribe you must have received to sell that power and depriving yourself the ability to demand accountability. Reading is the most essential and basic skill that can eliminate our economic quandary as Education is health, is science, is Technology, is governance, is business and Education is power it is the basis of what builds our community and contribute to increased political stability. Everything invented or created is as a result of education.

Our Campaign “GIVE A CHILD A BOOK” will be going into marginalized communities across the nation to share free English text books in partnership with BOOKS2AFRICA a UK Charity organization that donates books to Africa. So we invite you to support us in actualizing our goal which is to diminish illiteracy in our society which is the root cause of poverty.

Your Donation will have a massive impact in empowering deprived children with the literacy tools they need to be successful in life. We will like to thank you for your time and sincerely hope you will consider joining us in reforming the African society through intellectual empowerment and sending them to their peak with the books we give.
